Sourcing & Approach
Enter the Card Library →

The Tarot section was sourced from 3 places. The Golden Dawn provided, through the book by Israel Regardie, the titles of the Tarot, the Hebrew, the decans, and signs. They also described the cards both aesthetically and with personality, and provided the connections to the Sephiroth and their zodiacal degrees. Finally they gave us the angels, keywords of the cards (traditionally), and meanings of the upright conditions. They were also used in several spreads, specifically the Horseshoe and OOTK. The meanings of the number sets (Twos, Threes, etc.) are also provided from this sourcebook.

These were cross-referenced in the tables of Stephen Skinner's The Magician's Tables, which further provided or reinforced planetary, elemental, and angelic correspondences.

Finally, the meanings of the upright and reversed cards were further interpreted by me, Evander Blackwood, based on the historical presentations and modern influences. Perhaps this makes them the least reliable source, but they do align with the traditional values and meanings described by the other resources and correspondences.

As with all information presented here, this is not meant to be a strict and unassailable presentation of truth, but rather a realistic and hopefully mostly unbiased presentation of information for the use of students and practitioners. Please meditate upon that which aligns with your practice, and adjust to your personal preferences if misalignment is identified. I also invite criticism and good faith knowledge sharing. If you want to provide me with an improvement to the accuracy of the guidebook, please email me with your sources and knowledge. I will review it and update the page. I am also happy to credit your help in the citations section.
